Installation

To install the toolkit:

  • Make sure you have a Java 5.0 SDK or JRE installed.
  • On the Mac, make Java 5 your default VM for Eclipse. (See this >>link if you don't know how to do it. If you're wondering if you did this already at some time in the past: You probably didn't.)
  • >>download Eclipse (Select the 3.1.0 SDK version for your operating system.), and unpack it to where you want to start it. Start it!
  • Go to Help -> Software Updates -> Find and Install and select "Search for new features to install"
  • "New remote site". Give the site a name (e.g. "Micropsi update site") and enter >>http://www.cognitive-agents.org/update/ as URL.
  • Open the site and select the "Toolkit" entry. Follow the instructions of the wizard. (You may use the site bookmark to check for updates later.)
  • Say yes if you're asked if you want to restart Eclipse.
  • You can now open Micropsi perspectives, such as Mind, Admin and World.
  • If you are on Windows and want to install the 3dviewer, open your site bookmark again and select the optional tools' entry.
  • To install the agent itself, open the Java perspective and create a new project (New -> Project -> -> (Folder "Java") -> MicroPsi agent project - not just a normal Java project), name it "simpleagent" (exactly! lowercase!) and click "Finish".
  • download our example agent from the downloads page and import the ZIP-file (simpleagent.zip) by right-clicking on the project, selecting Import und choosing Zip-File.
  • In the Mind perspective (node net editor), use Agents -> Select Agent to select the agent "micropsi". You can now load the initial agent by clicking the "Load Agent state" button.
  • For starting the agent: Enable the scripting view: Window -> Show View -> Other -> MicroPsi Mind Console -> Scripting. When the scripting view shows, double-click the StartNet script. When it's finish, press the black Run Net button.
Sometimes, people have trouble updating from earlier versions of the toolkit. If you encounter unusual behaviour after updating, such as multiple entries for the same views, missing menu entries and the like, try update-troubleshooting.
